Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes, I am an in-network provider for most major health care plans in the area, including BCBS, Pacific Source, Cigna, Boon-Chapman, Allegiance, HMK, and Medicaid. For other insurances, please contact the office.

I also accept private pay and HSA funds.

  • The No Surprise Act protects patients from unexpected medical costs related to using an Out-of-Network Provider, and/or your insurance plan does not cover the services you are seeking, and/or you do not have insurance coverage.

It is your responsibility to check with your insurance provider to understand your deductibles, co-pays, insurance, and covered and non-covered services; however, please discuss your insurance coverage or non-coverage when initiating services so that I can help you understand costs up front.

If you are self-pay due to non-coverage or choosing to use McKenzie Speech Therapy as an Out-of-Network Provider, I MUST provide you with an estimated cost of services.

  • Cancellations should be communicated via text, phone call, or email no less than 24 hours before the scheduled session time. Cancellations due to emergency or illness can be made at any time.

No-show appointments and non-emergency cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance will be billed a no-show fee of $35. We reserve the right to discontinue services if more than 2 sessions are cancelled.

  • I am clinic-based, so all services will be provided at 2108 Broadwater Ave. Suite 201 in the treatment room.

  • Speech-language pathologists (also known as speech therapists) work with people of all ages, from babies to adults. SLPs treat many types of communication and swallowing problems. These include problems with speech sounds, language, literacy, social communication, voice, fluency, cognitive-communication, feeding, and swallowing.

Their training involves a master's degree in speech-language pathology, a 9-month clinical fellowship year under supervision to earn the certificate of clinical competence (CCC-SLP), and passing a national certification exam.

  • I will provide a phone screening consult free of charge to determine if an evaluation is warranted.

  • Every child progresses through their goals at their own pace, and their responses can vary significantly. Some children with significant communication needs may benefit from speech therapy into adulthood, while others may need less than a year to address articulation errors.

Caregivers can enhance the effectiveness of therapy and potentially expedite progress by collaborating closely with their speech-language pathologist and following through with the recommended home exercises.

  • Sessions typically occur 1-2 times a week, depending on the needs of the child. In more severe cases, such as apraxia of speech, therapy sessions can occur 3 times a week.

  • Yes, parents and caregivers are always welcome to be present during the session and be part of the therapy process.

  • There is so much you can do! I provide weekly homework with guided instruction and video modeling so that parents feel confident and prepared to follow through on recommendations.

  • The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is an excellent resource. Visit www.asha.org for reliable information on speech, language, and hearing development.
